Suspicions
I suspect that when I yank up my blankets to cover my freezing shoulders, my covers are not moving at all and instead I am pulling myself down towards the end of the bed, due to the two loads of laundry and many different books tossed haphazardly on my bed, so that I am squished on the last twelve inches of bed available.
Chicken Pot Pie
I believe there is nothing in the world at this time that is as delicious as home made chicken pot pie. With ketchup.

Twilight Confessions!
My name is Katie, and I am addicted to Twilight. *deep breath* (ducks flying rotten fruits and vegetables from Twi-haters).
I swear I've heard all the arguments against Twilight! People say that it isn't well-written (it's a book for teens!) and that it shows an unhealthy teenage relationship (whatever. So many worse books out there. Yes, it may be different because these are so widely read, but honestly. Heathcliff, anyone?) also, Edward acts like a freaky obsessive stalker (no snarky comment here, I actually agree. Him staring at her sleeping without her knowing it freaks me out).
HOWEVER, these books rock. I dare you to start reading it and then try to stop. (I couldn't. Read the first book at night when I should have been asleep, but I couldn't stop, I JUST HAD TO KNOW!) I also love the movie. My worst complaint is that the actor for Jacob Black is freaking only 17, and I wish he was 20. (Shh!)
Even though I have all this love for the books, I actually cannot read them anymore. I had to stop myself from rereading them, because too much of the "Edward--so perfect! thoughtful! Adonis-like! Perrrfect!" comments by Bella and then start to read about their fantabulously perfect relationship (misunderstandings and evil vampires aside, these two worship each other), I start to get irrationally angry at Nick. Seriously. My fabulous, sweet, thoughtful boyfriend, because he is not as perfect as a fictional character. I have absolutely no basis for it, because I'm so happy with him, other than we are not in a book, and our lives are not perfect like Bella's and Edward's are. And because I realize I am ridiculous, I've cut myself off.
. . . well . . . . . .at least for a little while.
Catch ya later, Twi-hards!

Frenchie
Quentin discovered the joys of photobooth a few weeks ago! He has a pretty good sense of humor. (He doesn't know that I'm posting these, so we'll see how well that humor holds up when he does see). ^_-

His English is much improved from when he first came here: he gets jokes, he can be sarcastic, he uses slang, and he is getting better at watching movies in English instead of wanting to watch them in French. (Interesting side-note: did you know that the French audio uses "merde" for every single bad word?)
He still doesn't pronounce "h" very much, and he calls our dog Kali "Kari" and Nick is "Nicky" my name instead of Katie is a cross between "Kitty" and "Kahty", but I think that it's funny and that he shouldn't change it.
And here he is giving the French cheek kiss! (Not really, but it goes along with this being the end of the post.) He actually didn't do that when we first met him, because he's trying to be American, but his French friend Louis stayed the weekend and did the cheek kisses (I totally didn't know he was going to, and ignored him for a sec, but then was like oh! oops! okay.)
And I'm babbling.
Kiss kiss!

Idiosyncrasy Confessions: Voicemail
Idiosyncrasy is defined as "an individualizing characteristic or quality" by Merriam-Webster, and I have quite a few. (Surprise!) But today I'd just like to focus on one that never fails to make me twitch.
Voicemail.
*twitch*
I have an unexplainable inability to listen to my cell phone's voicemail. I will do practically anything to get out of listening to it. If I slide open my phone and see I have a voicemail, I'll hit "ignore" and call the person back, and then try to get them to understand that unless they are bleeding and can't call me again, to just not leave me a voicemail. My poor mom is often a victim of The Voicemail Speech, because she loves to leave casual voicemail. "Hi honey, just wondering what you were up to. I'm at work/home/shopping, call me back. Mwah!"
I will let my voicemail's pile up until I get some angry calls (that actually get through to me) from friends and/or relatives that can't leave a voicemail because my box is full. Then I go through my voicemail's and delete, delete, delete (it makes me happy) so we can start the process over again.
I have a theory that I hate voicemail so much because it takes too long to get to the messages. I have to wait, enter a password, and then wait for the stupid woman's voice to stop talking so I can delete. *twitch*
Moral of the Story: Please, fortheloveofgodandallthatisholy, do not leave me a voicemail unless it is urgent*. I just won't listen to it.
*Exceptions: Mom, because you're my mommy and I don't really mind except sometimes; Aimee, because you're my supervisor and I live in fear of missing an important message; and Nick, because I like the sound of your voice.

New Best Friend (For Now)
I'd like to give a shout-out to my new best friend, Gaviscon.
Tums and rolaids don't do much to help with my stomach issues of queasiness/heartburn/GERD/ulcers/gastritis/whofreakingknows and I am afraid to take too much Pepto Bismol (read their side effects, eek) and already had to take three doses of that pink chalky tablet two nights ago, plus four antacids, plus two rolaids, and I am so tired of feeling sick and feeling full even though I haven't eaten anything except two bites of toast and some butternut squash soup, and feeling like I have food in the back of my throat and acidic bile taste in my mouth and MY GOD, this all just sucks the big wazoo. I'm still taking 2 Prilosec daily, one every twelve hours, plus digestive enzymes, plus probiotics. And today I added another antacid to my list: Gaviscon Extra Strength Liquid. (In cool mint!) I'm not sure if it really helped, but at least the incredibly minty white chalky flavor has distracted me from the other stuff.
PS I am now down to 143 pounds! I started at 153 and have been holding at 143 for three days. I can't remember the last time I weighed 143. 145 was my goal weight, and now it's like . . . I would rather feel better and weigh 153 again and just lose it the good ol' fashioned exercise way.

Holy Shiznit on Toast
The air is crisp, the leaves are turning orange, and the Halloween decorations are decorating our house. We have scarecrows, pumpkins, snakes, and spiders all around.

One of the plastic spiders is Oz's new favorite toy! He took it off the counter and ran around the house with it, scaring me silly half a dozen times. I'd see the creepy long black legs and freeze in terror before realizing it was fake. Eventually, I got used to seeing the plastic spider around. (Do you see where this is leading?)
Half an hour ago, I got up from the couch to go slide some banana nut bread (eggless! part of the dairy/egg fasting from my doctor to see if that helps my stomach! Hint: Hasn't yet.) and walked past the spider. I glanced down, about one foot away from it. And the disjointed black legs moved.
"HOLY MOTHERFUCKING SHIT HOLY SHIT OHMIGOD HOLYSHIT!" I jumped about three feet in the air, and somehow moved about ten feet away, and kept screaming and hopping up and down, pointing as the live spider started crawling towards me.
Finally the rest of my family came over, laughing at me for being so girly and scared of a spider. Dad walked over to look at it, and Troy followed, still chuckling at me for overreacting.
"Holy crap! That's a big spider!" "Whoa!"

Yeah. So, Dad took it outside, since nobody wanted to squish it. It took about five more minutes before the adrenaline wore off and my heart rate went back to normal. I still feel kind of twitchy when my hair brushes my neck. (*shudders in revulsion*)
Happy Halloween!

First Real Veterinary Visit

Io, my six year old boy that I've had since he was a teeny kitten, woke me up at about 7:20 this morning by banging on my closet door. (The litter is in there. He bangs on the door when he's trying to cover Slowly waking up, I realized that he had banged on the door a lot and that a few times in the night I had drowsily ordered him to "STOP. IT." before falling back asleep. I started worrying that he had a blockage or crystals in his bladder.
I took him to work and my boss said that his bladder was pretty full, so we knocked Io out so that we could flush out his bladder in case there were crystals.
Of course, Io has to be one of those few cats that stops breathing when you put him under. (Of course! AAack.) He finally started again, but I think I have some gray hairs now. We flushed him by putting a catheter up his urethra and found some fine sand crystals and a mucous plug. He was blocked but not too badly. We woke him up (and DR scraped his teeth to
get rid of some plaque). And then he threw up. He got a bladder antibiotic flush, an antibiotic injection, cortisone injection, and sent home with some more antibiotics.
I got to spend $30 on Chicken Soup for the Soul cat food (or any low magnesium food. ALL VERY EXPENSIVE.) Whee!
Dear Io,
Please don't ever get sick or scare me ever again.
Love, CrazyCatMommy

For the Love of Hair Ties
Hello, hello!

Oz, myself, and Oz just wanted to say hi. ^_^
My kitten was just cut off, cold turkey, from his beloved hair ties. He loved to trot around carrying them before chewing them in half, and then discarded them to go and find a new hair tie. He found them in drawers, and even would take them out of candles (where I hid them) and out of the trash (if they were broken). He would keep his "treasures" in his food bowl or even the water bowl! He's so spoiled, Mom even bought a big pack of hair ties just for Oz!
Alas, it was not to be. This morning Oz threw up a hair tie that he had chewed in half before eating. (I'm afraid he's going to give himself a blockage!) I spent part of today tracking down all of the mangled hair ties he's tossed around our house and hiding the few whole hair ties left. Now here's a challenge: finding the new favorite toy!
